This is the past projects section of the Frycustom site. While looking at these pics, please understand, most of these designs were done around 10 years ago, so things that are old news now, were innovative at the time.
For example, the Mercedes Benz ML55 displayed below, was originally titled AMG320 because at the time there was no AMG offering for the, then new Mercedes sport-ute. Another example would be the Frontiers full size bed, which was not available when it was first released, but in the last few years has become a popular option. Also designed by us, was a roll down power rear window in pickups, we put it into 2 sketches in the mid 90's.
The finest example of our designs foreshadowing production would be our Blazer which was originally penned in 1995. We imagined a off road, beastly, utilitarian vehicle that combined the 5 passenger comforts of a Blazer with the off road capabilities of a ZR2 with a functional short bed and pass through to utilize more storage space when the seats were folded down.
Within a few years after being committed to paper, Chevrolet unleashed it's Avalanche concept. Coincidence? Probably, but we like to think we had a hand in the concept creation.
We have been on hiatus for a long while, but we will begin to make new offerings that will be as forward thinking as most of our previous creations. |
First, we would like to start with our Project Chevy. Our project starts with a black '97 S-10, which we are planning to airbag, 4-link, and fit with heavy duty sway bars. It was body dropped 2 1/2 inches, shaved of everything, and sheet metal will be updated with a GMC "open face" grille shell. In the back, the third taillight was replaced with a Caddy unit. The center was replaced with a STS third brake light. Rolling stock were Weld ZR series 18*8 Magnum wheels wrapped with 235/45 Falken Zeix tires. |
Next in our showcase was the last Fry Custom project truck. An emerald green GMC Sonoma, dropped 4-6, 17*8 Centerline Hatchet style wheels, a turbo charged 4.3L, and a unique and stylish tear-away paint job dressed up like my favorite football team of the early 90's We did create another version of this design, which was dressed in two shades of blue and was in honor of our new favorite team, the Tennessee Titans. That rendering was tragically lost however, in a bizarre Mountain Dew accident in the summer of '01. |
Another truck in our display is the latest incarnation of Nissan's entry to the truck scene. The innovative Frontier is shown here. Fry Custom has redesigned the truck to be more stylish and functional. Round headlamps replace the solid ones, new front end treatment, severely lowering/body dropping, full size bed, and everything unimportant shaved make this truck much more appealing. Sorry about the lack of wheels. We still haven't decided which will fit the look of the truck best. |
This was another project S-10, (I'm noticing a pattern) designed as a retro model truck. By adding sheet metal over the rear wheel wells, smoothing everything, slamming the suspension and a 3 and ¾ inch body drop this car looks like a lead sled. Top the whole deal with 18 inch billet baby moon rims and you have one vintage looking ride.

This is the partner ride to the SmoothS10, this Blazer has all the same moves as it's pickupped compatriat. Low stance, dropped top, big billet baby moons carry through the 'Retro' look but inside it's all 21st century. Navigation, top end audio and video, and even a personal computer to help manage engine functions, MP3 files, and wireless internet. |
This sketch (Sketched 10-21-95) was done long before the Avalanche and Envoy XUV. This design was originally done in 1995, and was made to fit the outdoor adventurer mindset with offroad versatility. There is a decent suspension lift, rolling on 33's with a host of custom accessories. A Cord inspired front fascia, complete with a full custom Fry Custom original designed full phantom grille shell. Utilizing 93-97 Camaro headlights under a full width billet grille (with pop outs for legal driving) this mod stands out as completely original. In addition to the front end, the rear has also been modified extensively. The rear cargo area has been chopped and formed into a cargo bed. A custom roll bar has been fashioned to follow the vehicles contour and a 10 foot whip antenna which has been hard wired to the cabin for dependable communications. A pair of nerf bar has added for ease of entry and to help protect the rockers from that intense offroading.

This was a design made up for our 1996 Project syClone. We were in production when the turbocharged engine went into catastrophic meltdown and wound up requiring replacement. Design called for a black to grey fade with a emerald green top coat 'dropping' away to reveal the fade underneath. Through engine failure, and hardship, this project went away before completion due to a relocation across the country. |
Here is a sister design drawn to our syClone project, utilizing the same principals (turbocharger, AWD, and blinding speed) it would have been a visual opposite of the pickup and they would have been shown together. Starting with the base 2 door blazer, we would have made it into something the Sy/Ty community would hopefully have approved of. |
The Corvette was a glaring disappointment to me in the early 90's. Besides the Awesome LT1 it provided for swaps into S-10's, the design of the car from the mid nineties back to the late sixties left me with feelings of disappointment. Then engineers released the new for 97 Corvette and I was hooked. Updated styling, while following the family heritage left me woozy and finally wanting a slice of that All American dream. The only thing missing in my opinion was a throwback to my quintessential 'Vette, the 63 Split Window. We redesigned the 97 with a throwback look by adding a split right down the rear glass. Visibility be damned! |
I had a friend who was involved with the DARE program in the mid 90's and he was telling me about a confiscated 2 door Tahoe they were being given to use for the program. He wanted something bold to grab peoples attention and this was the deign I came up with. No one can ignore a classic black and white when they are flashing the blues. The car would have been equipped with a supercharger, 5/7 drop, a 2500 watt stereo, and the big for the time 17 inch wheels. It would have been displayed all over the southeast at car shows, school, and other community events. The project was canned due to no corporate sponsorship and lack of funding.

During the mid 90's fade paint jobs were all the rage, in a trend fabricated by the 'Dealer Custom' shops that needed a versatile and easy way to crank out individual 'one of a kind' custom packages to be sold on dealer lots by the hundreds. Now, while I talk down to not only the shops who made them, but also the customers who bought them, I must admit, I've owned 2 of these customs (one of which I still do own). This F150 was designed not as a quick slammed out custom paint, but to follow the theme of the truck which was aptly named 'Tequila Sunrise on Raceday'. |
Certainly, America's motto would have to be "Bigger is Better". Well then, what could be better than the U.S.'s "BIGGEST" bad boy, the Ford EXCURSION. Seen here with a stylish Race-Ready paint scheme over a factory blue finish, 20 inch footprints, and a stance meant for handling, even this lumbering barge can become a canyon carver. This image is currently an old scan and modified picture. We will be rescanning and uploading soon.

What is better than German engineering with American style? Not too damn much. So here is a AMG tuned, and Fry Customized Mercedes Benz ML55. Dropped on the ground, 2 tone paint, and a HUGE set of wheels, will definitely make this sport-ute stand out in a crowd! This image is currently an old scan and modified picture. We will be rescanning and uploading soon. |
Last but certainly not least is our TRD Tundra. Dropped for handling quality, 20 inchers tucked under each fender well, and a unique grille insert help make the truck. The rest of it is the cool paint job. How fast would YOU drive this bad boy? This image is currently an old scan and modified picture. We will be rescanning and uploading soon.

We have a few more sketches which will be uploaded in the next few months. |
